“We wanted a surface solution with enough depth to catch the light – soft or bright – and be visually striking from afar.
The final choice, a richly textured bone tone, enhances the entry, staircases, powder room, and media room. We love that it will evolve beautifully with the home, thanks to its natural properties.” – Kristen Spatial Studio.
Set against the breathtaking Queenstown landscape, this home is a masterclass in restraint, materiality, and craft. Designed by Spatial Studio and expertly finished by Make It Mint, the interiors express a quiet confidence through their tonal harmony and textured surfaces.
Each space has been considered for the way light interacts with form – from morning softness to the sharp contrast of afternoon sun. The result is a seamless dialogue between architecture and finish, where every surface feels alive with subtle movement.
Executed by Make It Mint, the finish was carefully layered to achieve depth and variation without visual heaviness. Each application was hand-trowelled, creating a consistent yet nuanced texture that responds differently under changing light conditions. The subtle bone tone amplifies the architectural features, grounding the palette in warmth and calm.
To achieve the home’s organic, light-responsive surfaces, the design team selected Novacolor’s Calce Cruda – a mineral-based finish that blends lime, clay, and marble powder. Known for its velvety matte appearance and soft tactility, Calce Cruda embodies the intersection of natural beauty and contemporary design sensibility.
Beyond its visual appeal, Calce Cruda’s breathable, natural composition ensures that the walls age gracefully – deepening in character over time. It’s this evolving beauty that aligns so seamlessly with the architectural intent of the project: a home designed not just for now, but for life.
